August House Project Notes
In Floor Radiant Heat System
The entire bottom floor of the house will be heated with an in-floor radiant system. Because the finish floor is going to be wood the first step is to install sleepers so there is a place to nail the flooring too.

Next all the tubing is installed. We will have 5 zones each with a separate control. Each zone has its own run of tubing. No heating is installed under the kitchen cabinets as food wil be stored there.

The tubing is pressure tested and an inspection made before the gypcrete floor is poured. Gypcrete is a lightweight gypsum concrete used to provide thermal mass in the radiant system. The gypcrete is mixed outside and pumped into the house.

The gypcrete is very liquid and is poured into the floor and floated like concrete.

Here is what it looks like when it's all poured. There is no gypcrete under the cabinets in the kitchen island.

Once it cures overnight work can continue inside. The gypcrete must cure for at least three weeks before floor installation though.
